Gummy Smile

A gummy smile, also known as excessive gingival display, occurs when an excessive amount of gum tissue is visible above the upper teeth when smiling. It is a common condition that can vary in severity and impact on a person’s smile.

Causes

A gummy smile can be caused by several factors including a hyperactive upper lip, excessive gum tissue, short or small teeth, or an overgrowth of the upper jaw bone. Genetic predisposition, improper bite alignment, and certain medications can also contribute to this condition.
