Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin condition with symptoms that include red, scaly skin patches that can cause itching. Psoriasis severity can range from mildly inconvenient to significantly impacting one’s quality of life. The condition typically alternates between periods of severe symptoms (flare-ups) and times when the symptoms are mild or nonexistent

Causes

In psoriasis, skin cells called keratinocytes divide and move to the surface too quickly, causing thick, scaly patches. This is due to an overactive immune system that releases chemicals causing rapid cell growth and inflammation, leading to red, flaky skin.
